Peter Bubestinger-Steindl, Keynote Speaker

Peter Bubestinger-Steindl studied Media Computer Science at the Technical University in Vienna and has been working as project-leader and developer in the field of digitial archives since 2002. He has hands-on experience with different archival metadata, databases, MAMs, and digital audiovisual file-formats from both developer and end-user perspective. As employee of NOA, he set up and developed solutions for different television- and radio-archives, as well as service-providers around the globe (ORF, RTV-Slovenia, Memnon, YLE, …). From 2010-2015, he was managing the video digitization development at the Austrian Mediathek. In recent years he has specialized in coordinating and deploying paid Open Source solutions for high-quality demanding use-cases in professional institutions.

Till Jaeger, Keynote Speaker

Dr. Till Jaeger is an attorney-at-law and partner at JBB Rechtsanwälte, a Berlin based law firm. One particular focus of Till Jaeger’s work is on the legal issues created by free and open source software (FOSS). Till Jaeger is a founding member of the Institute for Legal Questions on Free and Open Source Software (ifrOSS) in Germany, which researches legal questions regarding the Open Source model (www.ifross.org). He has represented his clients in several lawsuits to enforce the GPL in court. Till Jaeger was a member of the Committee C in the GPLv3 drafting process. He provides advice on compliance with open source licenses and on compatibility issues, and helps developers and software companies to enforce licenses both in Germany and abroad. Börje Justrell, PREFORMA Project Coordinator

Dr. Börje Justrell is Director and Head of Operational Support at the National Archives of Sweden. He has since 1989 been responsible for technical matters at the National Archives. Justrell has been teaching archival science at the University of Stockholm for many years and also been a member of international committees within the archivists’ professional association, ICA. He has been representing Sweden in expert groups on digitisation and digital preservation within the European Commission and also worked (and still do) in a number of EU projects like Minerva, MinervaPlus, Linked Heritage, DC-NET and DCH-RP.He was the coordinator of the EU project PROTAGE on digital preservation in the 7th framework programme and between 2003 – 2009 responsible for an advanced international training programme for developing countries conducted by the Swedish National Archives and sponsored by the SIDA, the Swedish International Development Cooperation.

Melanie Imming, EU Projects Manager, LIBER

As EU projects manager at LIBER Melanie is responsible for LIBER’s overall management of EU projects. Before joining LIBER in 2014, Melanie worked as a Senior Project Manager at the National Library of the Netherlands (KB) where she has led several innovative projects focused on the development of the digital library; she has also led the Sub Project Take Up team in the FP7 SCAPE Project. Melanie is experienced in dissemination, communications and translating more technical themes to the greater public. She has a background in audiovisual media, which was sparked by her experience at the Netherlands Institute of Sound and Vision, one of the largest memory institutions of the Netherlands. Melanie has a MA in Political Science from the University of Amsterdam.

Miquel Montaner, Easy Innova

Dr. Miquel Montaner is the CTO at Easy Innova. He received a M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering and a MBA by the University of Girona (UdG) in 1999, 2003 and 2008 respectively. His background is in Artificial Intelligence (AI). He was AI lecturer at the UdG and he is the author of a reference book on Recommender Systems. After a period of strong relationship with the University, he decided to devote all his efforts to apply research to the market. Dr. Montaner has been working as a Research and Technology consultant during the last 13 years in different companies. His main work has been the development of innovative projects for companies and institutions and the coordination of several National and European R&D funded projects. Besides AI, he has been also working in other research lines like Digital Preservation, Virtual Currencies and Social Networks. In the field of Digital Preservation he participated in several research projects for Memory Institutions (PROTAGE, PRESERVA, Pyramid, MIDPoint and PREFORMA) and for personal archiving (DURAFILE, GEPid and PreserMedia).

Xavier Tarrés Bonet, Easy Innova

Mr. Xavier Tarrés Bonet is a Project Manager at Easy Innova. He received his M.Sc. in Computer Engineer from the University of Girona (UdG). He started working in several companies related to computer science education, until 2010 when he co-founded Suitsee, a company providing 3D web pages using WebGL technology. In 2012, he joined Easy Innova as a technical coordinator of several European projects in digital preservation as PROTAGE, GEPiD, DURAFILE and PREFORMA. He is a senior project manager and an expert developer with extensive knowledge about programming languages, software architecture and pattern design.

Jérôme Martinez, MediaArea.net

Jérôme Martinez is the Founder and President of MediaArea.net, the lead developer of MediaInfo and a technical consultant to a variety of projects within the fields of broadcast video, audiovisual archiving, and web video. Jérôme’s work specializes in the analysis and categorization of audiovisual data as well as quality control, audiovisual metadata, and the development of open source solutions for media communities.

Dave Rice, MediaArea.net

Dave Rice is an audiovisual archivist and technologist. Dave’s work focuses on independent media as well as open source in audiovisual preservation and quality control analytics. He has worked as an archivist or archival consultant at media organizations like CUNY, Democracy Now, the United Nations, WITNESS, Downtown Community Television, and Bay Area Video Coalition. Dave is a graduate of the L. Jeffrey Selznick School of Film Preservation.

Carl Wilson, Open Preservation Foundation

Carl is the Technical Lead for the Open Preservation Foundation. Prior to that he worked for The British Library’s Digital Preservation Team on internal and external projects, including a spell as Technical Co-ordinator for the SCAPE project. He spent three years as Technical Lead on the Planets project, developing the Interoperability Framework and Service Interface definitions. He also helped organise and run the Planets Service Developer’s Workshops. Carl particularly enjoys hackathon style events, and is a regular attendee at OPF events, as well as those which were organised as part of the SPRUCE and AQuA projects.

Boris Doubrov, Dual Lab

Dr. Boris Doubrov is a CEO of Dual Lab, the company subcontracted by veraPDF consortium for developing the industry supported PDF/A validation tool as a part of the PREFORMA project. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from Belarusian State University (1997) and another PhD in Mathematics from the Catholic University of Leuven (2004). Boris has been working for more than 15 years in PDF technologies as a software developer, project manager and business owner. He is an active participant of the ISO activity on PDF 2.0 and future PDF/A standards.
